What is Sequence Memory?

Sequence Memory is a take on the classic memory-span task from cognitive psychology — the family of tests behind the famous “seven, plus or minus two” estimate of short-term memory capacity. Tiles on a 3×3 board flash one at a time; you repeat the pattern back in the same order.

How to play

  1. 1Watch the tiles flash — level 1 starts with a sequence of three tiles.
  2. 2Tap the tiles back in the exact order they lit up.
  3. 3Get it right and the next level adds one more step. A wrong tap costs a heart and replays the sequence — the run ends when all three hearts are gone.
  4. 4Your best level is your score — a direct read of your current sequence span.

What it trains

Memory span and serial recall — how much information you can hold, in the right order, at once. It is the same skill you lean on to keep a phone number or a short sentence in mind while you use it.
